Jessica

Jessica Ray
After years of competitive gymnastics and cheerleading Jess was searching for something that would tone and strengthen her body, Jess discovered yoga was exactly what she had been searching for and quickly realized that it was much more than a physical work out. After taking a Hip Hop Yoga class with Lynne Begier at Sweat and Soul Yoga it was love at first down dog and Jess began her journey as devoted yoga practitioner. She continued to return to her mat for not only the physical transformation she experienced but also the connection she was building between her mind and body.
Inspired to share what she experienced in her own practice Jess completed her 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training at Back Bay Yoga Studio under the direction of Lynne Begier and Ame Wren and also completed Hip Hop Yoga Teacher Training under the direction of Lynne Begier both in June 2012.

With a passion for arm balances and inversions, Jess' classes guide students through a dynamic sequence designed to build strength and flexibility while striving to allow students to escape their minds and move into their bodies through great music, and a sense of humor. She believes that building strength in your body will build self confidence which will lead to showing kindness to yourself, and in turn will lead to showing kindness towards others. The community that yoga builds is much more than people coming to practice yoga, it is a place where people learn from each other, support each other and build friendships that are founded in trust and compassion.

Jess continues to grow her practice as a curious student who will always be influenced and indebted to her teachers, Lynne Begier, Goldie Kaufenberg and Caitlyn Graham.

Kim

Kim Rajotte
Kimberly Rajotte is a yoga instructor based in Boston, MA. During her time working in high-end fashion retail, Kimberly felt the constant drain of helping clients superficially solve their problems through fashion. After dabbling in yoga for over 10 years, she found herself back on her mat 5 years ago with an anxious mind and stressed body. It was Kim’s yoga practice where she began to observe from within. Through her yoga practice she realized she could have a lasting impact on people by guiding them to reconnect with themselves through the mind-body practice of yoga. Inspired to help create a more loving and grounded world, Kimberly enrolled in Teacher Training in 2012. What started out as a hobby and an outlet became a new path in her life and she began teaching fulltime, transforming her career to a life of health and wellness.
With 14 years of competitive cheerleading and gymnastics background, Kimberly brings presence, confidence, joy and passion to all of her classes. Kimberly teaches a vinyasa-style flow with creative sequencing and a strong focus on safe, sound alignment. Kimberly caters towards all-levels and will encourage every student to try new things in a judgement-free environment. She believes that the practice of yoga holds a unique meaning for each practitioner. Yoga is a time for moving prayer, dancing meditation and the cultivation of love; love for the world and love for the self. "When we come to the mat together in community we find refuge, we facilitate change and we have the power to support each other on the confronting path of discovery". Together you will move through a yoga flow aimed at your individual needs with a committed focus on the breath in the hopes of taking you deeper into your personal journey of transformation with grace and strength.

Kimberly completed her 200 hour Teacher Training at Back Bay Yoga Studio under the direction of Lynne Begier and Ame Wren in 2012, as well as Hip Hop Teacher Training with Lynne and Goldie Kaufenberg in 2013. She is forever grateful to her teachers, Lynne and Ame, as well as Goldie Kaufenberg and Caitlyn Graham who continue to inspire, motivate and guide her.

Erica

Erica Bornstein
Being a dancer all her life, Erica has always communicated through movement. Her mother will attest to her twirling down the aisles at the supermarket since she could walk. She fell in love with yoga at a very young age when she was introduced to it as a way to stay in top dancer shape, but later in life discovered it was so much more than that. As an adult she developed a regular yoga practice and began to see changes not only in her physical body, but also in the way she reacted to everyday challenges. The yoga was making her strong, but subconsciously, it was teaching her to take one thing at a time, to remain calmer, and to trust that everything was as it should be. Erica found herself constantly thinking about yoga, talking about it, reading about it, so she decided to see what would happen if she registered for a teacher training in 2010.
Erica now is a full-time yoga teacher and could not be more thrilled to be a part of the incredible yoga community in Boston. Erica teaches an athletic and strong vinyasa flow, with focus on movement along with basics and alignment, and she encourages students to personalize their practice for their own needs. She teaches yoga with a sense of fun and creativity, always has a killer playlist, and her humor and playful spirit is ever present in her classes. Overall, Erica believes that yoga is an accommodating practice, accessible to all people, that requires only loving care for the body and the willingness to keep an open mind and heart. Among her many teachers, Erica is indebted to Chanel Luck, Bonnie Argo, and Lynne Begier and is continually inspired by so many of the teachers in the local Boston yoga community who are truly amazing.

This class combines elements of vinyasa, yin and restorative to create an invigorating, relaxing and deeply restoring experience. We will begin class with a restorative posture to ground and settle. Then we will spend time moving through flowing lunar sequences linked with breath to warm and loosen the outer layers of the body. The final portion of class will offer a few yin poses (deep stretching which targets the tissues and fascia of the body) and then finish with a purely restorative and supportive ending, prepping the body for a blissful extended savasana. This class will provide the opportunity for students to bring balance to their bodies and practice through three very different but complementary styles.

Metal Yoga - $10 CASH ONLY Matt Rutkowski Saturday, 8/2 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM 90 min
This ain't your grandma's yoga…unless she's totally awesome, in which case, bring her along. A sweaty hour and a half of movement and breath soundtracked by anything from Black Sabbath to Black Dahlia. Red lights bathe you in badass, as the beats help you tap into the raw power that lies within. Seasoned headbangers (and yes, there will be neck stretches) or mosh-pit novices (OK, so don't actually hit anyone) are welcomed, as are curious, new or practiced yogis and yoginis. Bring a towel, bring water, bring your open mind. Maybe your devil horns.

I am currently completing a Bachelor’s of Music at UMass Boston. Forever a student!

It is with this curiosity and thirst for understanding that I approach the mat. I would love to prepare you to explore the possibilities of the physical body, enjoy the sensations afforded to one by tuning into the breath, and shed the misconceptions that playtime is just for kids.

Inspired to help create a more loving and grounded world, Kimberly enrolled in Teacher Training in 2012. What started out as a hobby and an outlet became a new path in her life and she began teaching fulltime, transforming her career to a life of health and wellness.

When I was a kid, my dad used to take my sister and I to the gym where he would lift weights, swim, run and play racquetball. We were too young to do anything except swim in the pool but we would get so excited about going to the gym. My dad never thought of working out as a hassle, it was a highlight to the day, and that's exactly what was passed down to me!
I found my love for movement in dance and running which carried on into my teenage and college years until I injured my knee and had to stop both entirely.

A few years ago, I began teaching spin classes and more recently, I became certified as a pre-natal yoga instructor. I gave up my PR job to take a managing job at Back Bay Yoga and Sweat and Soul Yoga and am now a full time yoga and spin instructor.
My thoughts on exercise haven't shifted much since my days at the gym with my dad. I love to motivate people and help them achieve their goals just as my students inspire me to complete goals of my own. I want people to leave my class feeling good about themselves and their bodies. I want them to sweat, feel challenged and to have fun! My classes are available to all levels and everyone is welcome.
Because of my regular yoga practice, I am now able to run multiple times per week and just finished my first half marathon! Yoga works!!

Every day I am grateful for being able to do what I do and in turn, grateful for my own teachers and students who allow me to do what I love.

Alissa Portet
Alissa has been an athlete most of her life. Originally a runner, she found her way to the mat after struggling with a number of injuries. Although hesitant to try yoga for fear that it would jeopardize her daily calorie burn, she decided to see for herself what all the buzz was about. After her first day in class, Alissa was pleased and surprised to discover that this practice gave her both a cardiovascular workout AND helped her find peace and stillness. Needless to say, she was hooked.

Alissa teaches by the motto, "Yoga meets you where you are." She believes that it is her job to guide students through useful movement with inspiring direction to help them uncover their own inner spirit. Her teaching style has been described as invigorating. I completed my 200-hour, Yoga Alliance-registered training with Inner Strength Studios in the Spring of 2012. I have also studied the craft of adjusting and assisting with Lauren Star, Daniel Max and Vyda Bielkus, as well as the Shiva Rea-crafted module “Mandala of Asanas”, delivered by Chanel Luck.

Jessica
